FLC PEN IN TRANSFORMERS MOVIE
We are having another brush with fame at FLC this week.
In addition to the story on our Father’s Day Chili Cook-off on KABC-7 News last Sunday afternoon, we are in the movies!
The new “Transformers: The Last Knight” is out today and FLC is in it! That is, one of our pens is in it.
We have had thousands of pens with our logo, name and website addresses made and we give them to our members and friends for them to use and to distribute wherever they can. We have had them left or seen “in the wild” in 392 locations: in 64 cities in California, in 18 other states, and in 22 other countries!
One of our members, Jake Jacobsen, who worked on the new Transformers movie, glued one of them to one of the pre-CGI’d main character Transformers. Look for us at a movie theatre near you!
Pick up some pens at FLC this week and spread them around. Let us know where you leave them.
FATHERS DAY CHILI COOK-OFF THANKS
Our thanks to all who contributed to our annual Father’s Day Chili Cook-off after worship last Sunday. We had lots of food and great fellowship.

FLC member Lia Gyore was interviewed and gave a wonderful description of the event and of what role events like the Chili Cook-off play in the life of our Christian community.
Our congratulations to first place winner Connie Parrish, second place winner Lia Gyore, and to Pastor Berkedal, who came in third.
Our special thanks to Doug Halvorsen for organizing the event, Nancy Brewster and the Women of Faith for pulling it off, to Jerry Dade, who takes our photos at FLC events, James Berkedal, who took some of these, and to all who brought the great food!

WORK YOUR BIBLE
The Lutheran Reformation was, in part, about how all people should be able to read the Bible, not just the priests. How well do you know the Bible?
We are printing the pew Bible page numbers of our Sunday readings.
Or, for $5 you can buy Bible book tabs to mark the first page of every book in the Bible for easy navigation.
Or you may download an app for your phone or device that will help you find a Bible verse in seconds! Olive Tree is good. For a one-time $10.00 fee you can download the NRSV translation we use in worship and Bible Study and use it on all your devices. Logos is also good.
Be the Reformation as we approach its 500th Anniversary on October 29th!

STUDY ROMANS WEDNESDAY NIGHTS
What does Easter mean as a guide to the Christian life and to Church survival?
Come and study the meaning the Book of Romans for daily life at our Wednesday night evening services at 7:00 p.m. each week.
Martin Luther wrote, in the preface to his commentary on the book of Romans, “This letter is truly the most important piece in the New Testament. It is purest Gospel. It is well worth a Christian's while not only to memorize it word for word but also to occupy himself with it daily, as though it were the daily bread of the soul.”
Come and be fed.
FOOD PANTRY SUPPORT
We set a goal of giving 5,750 lbs. of food, including some of the produce from our Seeds of Faith garden, and personal hygiene items, to our local emergency food pantry in 2017! Please give food to help the people who need our help in the name of Jesus Christ. Food that does not need cooking, small water bottles, canned food, staple food, easy-to-prepare food, diapers and personal hygiene items are much needed.
If you prefer, you can contribute funds and volunteers will shop for you.

FREEING FAITH APPEAL 2017 PLEDGES
We’ve had a great beginning to our Freeing Faith Stewardship Appeal with the number of pledges up 30% so far.
President of the Congregation, Paula Ambrosini, brought a heartfelt and fine conclusion to our series of member talks during worship. Click here for the text of her remarks.
Materials are still available on the announcement tables and can be accessed below.
A pledge is not a contract. It is a statement of intent that can be revised up or down. What it does is help us be intentional about our giving.
Pray about it, and then return your completed pledge this coming Sunday. We will bring our pledges to the altar and tie them to a Christmas tree as a response to the great gift of God in Jesus Christ.
Thank you for your continued partnership in our common ministry, your generous response to God’s grace, and your shining example of what a Christian community looks like among the people it serves and to whom it witnesses.

FREEING OUR FAITH IN 2017
Are you rich towards God? Could you live on ten times your current giving?
First fruits (the first check you write after income), proportional (based on a percentage of that income) growth giving (leading to 10% (a tithe) and beyond) is the Biblical standard.
With the stocks at or near all-time highs, gifts of appreciated stock directly to FLC may have tax advantages. Consult with your financial advisor to see if this may be effective stewardship for you.
Live by faith each day for Jesus.
